Nissan Pivo
Weird Car of the Day #507: 2005 Nissan Pivo Concept - Spin cycle
What annoys me about the Nissan Pivo concept is it's not that outlandish. An electric skateboard platform, with a fully drive-by-wire 3-seat pod on top that could rotate like a teacup ride, not outlandish? Hear me out.
At the time, in addition to funding the next generations of its road cars, Nissan had two huge line items on its books: developing the R35 GT-R into a world-beating sports car at the same time it was declaring itself all-in on EVs.
I was there: I literally stood next to the stage as Carlos Ghosn drove a GT-R show car onto the stage at the 2007 Los Angeles International Auto Show, and I was among the first groups of reviewers to sample the Leaf EV. Who cares?
Well, apparently nobody: the Pivo, Pivo 2 and Pivo 3, were all electric, and never put into production.
