Mazda Baby Boomers
Weird Car of the Day #514: 1993 Mazda Baby Boomers – Millennial inheritance
Language is always changing, and that's why we'll never run out of stupid car names.
You may not believe this, but I'm not the kind of automotive anorak who remembers every detail of every make, model, and year of car. One of the main reasons I do WCOTD is because I'm obsessed with cars but have learned my thirst for knowledge exceeds my ability to recall it.
This means researching about how Mazda made its fourth-generation 323 hatchback (FA4) in Japan from 1977-1980, but that the design was offered to overseas manufacturers who were able to add a more local flair. The car itself was, as hatchbacks were, astonishingly simple: three carbureted engines, 1.2-litres and less, rear wheel drive, and choice of a 3-speed automatic; 4-speed or 5-speed manual transmissions.
The years for our Baby Boomers? 1993 to 1995.
I think my "memory" is "bad" when I'm trying to recall things that don't interest me. Restating the specifications of a weedy hatchback is excruciating, because we're all here to marvel at what a silly name this car has.
Mazda can't pretend it didn't happen, because one of the 'o's is a Mazda logo:
