Carrosserie Caruna Staccato
Weird Car of the Day #513: 1976 Carrosserie Caruna Staccato - Wedge case
Is it stranger to learn about a Switzerland-based vehicle manufactuer-turned-car modifier—or that it existed for 45 years?
Indeed, from 1965 to 2010, Carrosserie Caruna AG did all sorts of things under the banner of coachbuilding, from in-house designs (Spider, Staccato, and so on), to convertible and targa top conversions and more. Apparently, the quality and engineering was quite good.
Carrosserie Caruna counted members of the Dutch royal family among their customers. For them, a convertible Mercedes-Benz 380 SL in metallic blue over white leather and four doors. Why else strive to become royalty if not for the custom cars, am I right?
One Carrosserie Caruna Mercedes-Benz conversion was even spotted in a photograph of a conflict-torn street in Baghdad, Iraq. Another, in New York, New York, USA.
From that 45 years-long history, I thought it necessary to highlight a particularly elusive car.
A weird car with four, count 'em, four, photos.
(Until it no doubt shows up at some concours, restored and resplendent.)
