As a depressed, car-obsessed 12-year-old boy in 1996, I can promise you this wagon would have confused me more than I already was.

See, I was privileged enough to have a mom who encouraged my reading — and it didn’t seem to matter if it was a $12 paperback or $12 European car magazine. Great success.

I can’t say if this two-door wagon would have made a positive impression, given my car tastes were always more posh — having a series of small contrasting screw holes in the roof rails might have been too much spice for my adolescent brain.

Either I’d dismissed it immediately or it never registered at all (shame on me) because it shows off several very forward-thinking design tropes that enthusiasts still eat.
