I'd even go so far as to say that if you can't get over what import enthusiasts did to their Civics through the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, you'd shake your head at what generations of shade tree mechanics have done to Detroit muscle.
Felber Excellence Coupe, pearl with cream vinyl top — oh so 1977 • Felber
From cowl induction hood scoops and opportunistic engine swaps to raked suspension and aftermarket whatsits, a muscle cars’ most enticing sin was how fun it was to drive in a straight line…and how easy it was to work on. Enthusiasts took care of the rest.
Tuning companies happen everywhere, of course, but muscle cars that found their way into Europe often fared well in maintaining their originality.
Muscle cars were both more expensive to purchase and relatively difficult to import, so unless you were a 1970s shipping magnate or air cargo savant, or luxury dealership, pre-Internet it would have been a pain to figure out how to get your own Pontiac Firebird, let alone a Swiss-made Felber.
