Weird Car of the Day #407: 2000 BMW X5 LM – Let ’em cook?
At 16, in the year 2000, I was floored by this beastie popping up in the foreign-language car forums I frequented. Friends and family were, for months after, treated to a forced diet of “WATCH THIS” clips featuring this SUV getting airborne.
Fast forward to 2014, when writing about the BMW X5 LM (also with hundreds of test drives under my belt) I said:
“I suppose that with little effort, around 600 horsepower in a 5-seat SUV is doable—and that's probably what we'll end up getting once Lamborghini and the rest of the modern Jet Set manufacturers start seeing how extreme they can make SUVs.”
